Who are we?

We are a group of dedicated teachers and students around the world who have collaborated on the idea that theater can be used not only as an educational device, but as a tool to cross political, social and economic boundaries.

Using theater to promote shared cultural and social values of respect, lifelong learning and understanding, our goal is to use and combine educational and theatrical experience into a learning device for our productions' participants, families, schools and communities.

New Movie Release Trailers and Reviews

Free and updated new movie release trailers and reviews. They're fun to watch and help create content for your classroom. Other ideas? Send them in to travelingteachers@live.com and we'll add them!

Ideas for use: These are great time fillers if you have extra time and Internet access. These work wonders for bored high school and university students. Common sense: Make sure the trailer is age-appropriate before viewing.

1. Listening/watching for details: Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? Set a time limit and see how many your students can do. Have students compare answers. Check their work.
2. Prediction: Discuss the narrative style. After watching a trailer, have your students predict what will be the outcome of the movie.

3. Review: Discuss critical analysis. What is the message? Who is saying the message? What is the goal of the message? Have your students write "reviews" of the review. Based on the message, would they go and see the movie?

Theater Reviews for Upper-Intermediate and Higher Level Students

The New York Times provides excellent reviews of current theater in the New York City Area. Other ideas? Send them in to travelingteachers@live.com and we'll add them!

For teachers: Review the vocabulary with your students before reading the review. Giving background on the production helps the student understand content. Introduce and review the format for a review (main idea of the production, pieces of support, and a conclusion). Jig-saw an article into different paragraphs and have your students put the review back in the correct order.
For students: The New York Times can be difficult but don't give up. Read first for comprehension. Read again for comprehension.

Ideas for use: 1. Research previous productions or the origins of the play. How are they different, how are they the same? 2. Research and find theater reviews in your language. 3. Using the New York Times as a guide, write your own reviews for books, film and theater.
